• Issues with Grid Level BESS Units (October 31, 2025). This white paper examines the safety, financial, and community-impact risks posed by grid-level Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS). While newer Na-ion batteries reduce fire hazards compared to older NMC and current LFP chemistries, the paper highlights serious concerns including noise pollution, insurance loss and potential home foreclosures for residents living within a mile of a BESS, and the use of complex "shadow banking" financial structures that transfer long-term environmental and economic liabilities to towns and pension funds. It concludes with recommendations for safer siting, technology choice, engineering certification, and financial safeguards to protect communities facing BESS deployment.
